In my water spirit religion, Opal is the result of water being bored because it was trapped in the earth. It passed the time by arranging all the silica into neat rows and columns to remind the water of the sun and rainbow. Not far from how Opal was formed anyway. In my water religion water is the intelligence, life itself. We are mostly bags of water moving around doing the bidding of our water. What makes water so special is that it is liquid, things can move around in it. In fact our atmosphere is water and gasses, like a swamp just not as thick as a pool of water itself.
And, water is always moving, from one state to another. Hard to capture, hard to keep in one place, like life itself, always changing, always on the move. Where water exists life exists, when water leaves the land life ends.
Just think how connected we are to the moving cycle of water, liquid, gas, regrouping as rain or snow and then over the land and out to sea again. When we die, our life's blood and fluids wash away, joining the endless cycle of movement and rebirth. Water is not mad, does not hold grudges allows each form to take it's own shape, animating it for it's life cycle and moving away, re-cycled after that.
